Taking Yasmin birth control pills
Yasmin is supplied with a patient information leaflet. Read it carefully.
You should try and take Yasmin at the same time every day, the pills should not be taken more than 24 hours apart.
Side effects
All birth control pills can cause side effects, but these side effects are usually mild and disappear after the first few months of use. Serious side effects do not occur very often. In clinical studies, women taking the Yasmin birth control pill experienced side effects similar in amount and severity to those experienced by women taking other birth control pills.
A common side effect of birth control pills is vaginal bleeding between periods. You may notice some spotting or experience breakthrough bleeding. Usually, this clears up within the first few months, but can occur later on. This type of bleeding is usually temporary and not serious.
Other possible side effects include: bloating, increased blood pressure, a spotty darkening of the skin, nausea, vomiting, change in appetite, headache, nervousness, moodiness, dizziness, loss of scalp hair, rash, and vaginal infections. If you experience any side effects while taking the Yasmin birth control pill, tell your healthcare professional. If you wear contact lenses then you may experience a change in vision or be unable to wear contact lenses.
It is important to remember, though, that most side effects with the birth control pills are not serious and will probably clear up within a few months.
